Parent Testimonials
''Transition Year was brilliant for my son. He became much more confident and learned lots of life skills. It gave him the opportunity to travel and he received the Gaisce award. He also did the Tenderfoot Program with the Civic Theatre which he loved. He made lots of new friends. It was an amazing year and he now knows exactly what he wants to do in life.'' Pamela Conway ''My son thrived in transition year. From the beginning he availed of every opportunity that came his way. He wrote/produced a play, was part of a team that made a short movie, did first aid, went to Italy and there was so much more. He had worked hard in junior cycle and we felt going to fifth year straight away would be too much for him. It was the right choice. He matured during that year and has gone into fifth year ready for the leaving cert. The whole year was a positive experience for my son but for us as parents too. Would highly recommend transition year to everyone. I think it's the perfect opportunity for a student to learn/try something new.'' Barbara Dillon |
''I had my doubts about my daughter doing Transition Year, I had heard that it was a waste of a year. All I can say is my doubts were completely unwarranted. It has been an amazing opportunity for my daughter to take part in so many activities, outings, charity and community work etc. After a trip to Trinity College she decided she want to go there after her Leaving Cert. She has made genuine lifelong friendships. She has matured and being part of such a great Transition Year group has made her so happy, which is what we all want for our children.'' Mandy Reynolds ''As a parent of a Transition Year Student I would have no hesitation in recommending any student to do it. My daughter has gained so much from being part of it. Already she has had so many different experiences and has developed new talents. Its also a great way of making new friends and being part of a team.'' Olga Willoughby ''Both my son and daughter participated in the Transition Year programme in OBCS, which they thoroughly enjoyed. It was a great opportunity to try new subjects and activities, and to spend time exploring and developing their interests. It gave them the space they needed to think about future studies and careers and to consider their choice of leaving certificate subjects. During the year they matured, grew in confidence and gained skills which I feel will be a huge asset to them in college and in work.'' Teresa Gadd |
''I have found Transition Year to be of great benefit for my son he has had great opportunities so far and the year has only really started. From the team building in Kippure, the Ploughing Championships, Public Speaking Course, Driving Lesson, visiting many Third Level Institutions, trips to the Panto & Ice Skating and many more things. My son is having a great year and its great to see his confidence grow. Hopefully, all these experiences will help him to decide what career direction he would like to pursue. The Transition Year Course is run excellently by Ms McCarthy and the rest of the TY Teachers I would have no hesitation in recommending it for further students. Great course with great opportunities for all students.'' Jane McMahon ''I feel that the decision of doing TY was a good one. It has been an exciting, productive time so far, very well structured .There has been plenty of work involved . I was impressed by the level of detail that is required of the students in logging their activities. The trips , talks and exposure to a broad range of subjects both academically and socially has been hugely beneficial. I look forward to seeing this year through and its positive effect into the future.'' Anita Duff |
